The Final Farewell

By Hailee Cederquist

Recently the Northview family said goodbye to the seniors in a brand new way. The Senior Farewell Assembly is Northview High School’s newest tradition.

Math teacher Matt Coty, who planned the event, says that the Senior Farewell Assembly was an overall success.

“The seniors really enjoyed having [their peers] see them off,” Coty said. “They’ve never been able to show off the accomplishment of making it through high school to the students who haven’t yet.”

Of course, every event has its faults. Both students and teachers commented about the lack of respect from students who left not only before the assembly was over, but before classes would be officially dismissed for the day at 2:35pm. Coty admits that timing was a problem, and that next year he will be sure to allow enough time for the assembly to be completed long before the dismissal bell.

Junior Olivia Domine commented that “People really should have more respect for the seniors, we should know that better than anyone.” Domine also said that she hopes that the tradition continues. “It really is a cool idea. I would love to wear my cap and gown and have all of the other students see it.”

Hopefully in the future the seniors will gain the respect they rightfully deserve. They have made it through four years of tough classes and endless extracurriculars. They have earned this honorary assembly.
