It’s “the moment you’ve waited for,” said senior Cate Carlberg, Northview Marching Band colorguard member. After months of practicing, the marching band season has come to an end. On Saturday, November 5th, the nearly 200 member Wildcat Marching Band competed in the Michigan Competing Band State Championships at Ford Field, earning 3rd place in Flight 2 with a score of 90.975.
For some, this show meant not only the end of the season, but the end of their high school marching career. Even in her fourth and final year as part of the Northview Marching Band, Cate Carlberg was still nervous for her last performance. Despite the nerves, she was also very excited and looked forward to her favorite part of state championships- the moment right before they performed because “it’s our last time performing together and it’s really emotional.”
For others, the show was just the beginning of their experience in the marching band. Caitlin Tay, freshman trumpet player, was both excited and nervous for state finals. “I’m sad because I know it’s close and that means marching band is going to be over. My section leaders are both seniors and they’re going to be leaving. They really complete the section and make it a family.” Tay said. She was also very excited because after hours and hours of practice, their whole season would be over in only 8 rewarding minutes.
If senior Cate Carlberg could offer any advice to freshman Caitlin Tay performing at Ford Field for the first time, she said to “make sure you know where the hashes are! The professional fields are different than the high school ones.” For some freshmen, this means more stress and nerves. Caitlin said, “Oh, no. Now I’m going to be stressing about that too.”
The last show on Ford Field was a big ending for a big season. “I just wish more people got to experience State Finals, because the rush that you get is different than anything else,” said senior Caleb Wells. Congratulations to the 2016 Northview High School Marching Band on earning 3rd place at State Championships!
