Sophomore, Lindsay Taylor, was the other returning player, and also chosen as a captain by this year’s team. Despite her young age, Taylor was ready to step into the leadership position. “There was a lot on my shoulders since it's a big responsibility, but wasn't that bad because I'm pretty calm during the game, so I wasn't really scared that I was chosen,” Taylor said.
There were more hardships than just a young team this season. Before regular conference play even started, the team lost their only senior, team co-captain, Megan Lyons. She slipped during a game at a tournament at Grand Haven High School, fractured her ankle, and was forced to sit out for the rest of the season.
“I chose to do my best in supporting every girl on the team because it wouldn't have been fair for me to sit and mope around,” Lyons said about her injury. She realized that the team could help her keep her hopes up, and pursue her dreams of playing in college. Instead of giving up, she ended up stepping into a leadership role and made great relationships with the entire team because of it. The advantage of having a young team is that they can build into next year because the core of the team will all be the same players. “It’s exciting in a sense to think what next year holds with all that we have returning and all the more potential that we have to develop!” Psaute said about the team.
