The Odd One Out

Elle Dyer, who has been playing basketball since first grade, is the odd one out among her team members. She is the only junior on the varsity basketball team amid sophomores and seniors. But that doesn’t hold Dyer back. “The team has a really good relationship, we all get along very well and there aren’t any outcasts,” Dyer stated. The team has a special chemistry that allows them to fool around with each other but be serious when the time calls for it.

But being the only junior on a varsity team does have its challenges. Dyer hasn’t been playing basketball with these girls from childhood, while some of them have been side by side for years. She says that the hardest struggle is “learning to play together” because they are still a young team. Although Dyer savors playing with her senior friends before they leave for the real world, she misses her junior friends who she has been playing with since a young age.

The varsity girls basketball record so far this year is 2-6. The team and their new coach, Rose Antrim, have been working hard to take home their next win. Stay tuned to see how the girls progress throughout the rest of the 2016-17 season.
