Sound of the Seven

Everyday, hundreds of students and teachers walked into Northview High school to the sounds of, “Hello!” and “Good morning!” coming from the upstairs balcony. The friendly voices came from a group of junior boys, who greeted as many people as possible, all with a smile on their faces. This group, having known each other since freshman year, made the start of people’s days a little brighter.

Mitchell, Adam, Seth, Saige, Jarrett, and Johnathan were all close friends with Stephen Rathbun, who recently passed away due to a car accident. These seven boys would be seen together everyday before school, always laughing and joking around with each other. “He was one of our closest friends,” Mitchell Johnson said, reminiscing on his memories with Stephen. All of the other boys around him chimed in with stories of being together, and everything they said was a happy memory with Stephen. “Who remembers Erebus?” said Seth Voss, beginning to laugh. “Can you go in the front, Mitchell?” Voss continued, saying how Stephen was a bit scared in the haunted house and did not want to lead the pack. The rest of his friends all joined in the laughter at one of their fondest memories of Stephen, and one could sense the joy in the air when the story was being told.

These seven juniors were impacted greatly by their friend Stephen. His life created many stories for them to tell, and they will always remember him for the memories they all share together. Even if you didn’t know their names, you knew who they were just by hearing their voices from the balcony. Though Stephen may have passed on, he will always be remembered by his closest friends who will cherish the memories they share with him.
