Hockey: Making dentists rich since 1875

Hockey. One of the hardest working, yet underrated teams at Northview High School. With a record of 5-3 and the drive to beat those teams when they face again, the team is looking to have one of their best seasons in years. Showing their improvement is this year’s victory against the team’s rival, West Catholic.

Northview has lost to West Catholic 7 out of 8 of the games they have played over the past few years. The seniors on this year’s team had only ever beaten them once, so they were hungry for revenge. According to junior, #5, Alex Christian, the team skated out onto the ice and battled hard, coming out with a 2-0 victory against their rivals.

Alex is one of the many new players on the team which is a mix of Comstock Park, Sparta and Northview students. This year, there are more Northview players than any other school, with 9 coming from the other schools. Despite the mix of backgrounds, the team is very tight. “We all enjoy spending time with each other, everyone makes each other laugh,” Christian said.

The closeness of the team is known to more than just the team themselves. According to #31 Alex Monteith’s, sister Alicia Monteith, “They’re always there for each other. Even though they give each other a hard time, they won’t hesitate to stand up for each other on and off the ice.”

Alicia went on to say that she loves going to the games to watch her brother play, because the Cats always put on a good game, and that the energy of the crowd is great. Alicia isn’t the only one who loves going to this year's games. “I feel like the word about [Northview’s] hockey team got out more,” she said.

Alicia predicts that the rest of their season will be great, and Alex Christian claimed they would come back and beat the teams they have lost to, since they play every conference team twice. “We haven’t played a team that was better than us. They just played better during that game,” Christian said. Both Alex Christian and Alicia Monteith mentioned that people should keep an eye on the team for the rest of the season.
