Spanish Club: Immersing Themselves into Hispanic Culture

Across the United States, there are around 41 million native Spanish speakers. Across the globe, there are around 460 million. The Spanish club here at Northview is a great way that Spanish students of all levels are immersing themselves into Hispanic culture and the language itself.

The Spanish club explores Hispanic culture in America and across the globe through all of their senses. Spanish club supervisor Carl Marsh has gotten club students moving by teaching them various dances, both from Hispanic culture and other cultures across the world. They also embrace Hispanic culture by listening to Spanish music. At their last meeting, the club dove into the culture with their sniffers and taste buds by smelling the aroma of and trying quesadillas.

Not only does the Spanish club help students immerse themselves in the Hispanic culture, but also immerses them into the Northview community as well. One of Marsh’s favorite parts about Spanish club is, “having students like you [a Spanish 4 student] getting the chance to meet with Spanish 1 students.” This allows students to meet new people of all levels, people they normally wouldn’t get the chance to meet. Spanish club meets on Thursdays after school in Senior Marsh’s room and is open to everyone.
