ALPs and the Environment

Taking care of the earth is essential to its long term survival and for a healthy future for mankind. Change can begin right in your community. Northview’s Adventure Leadership Program, better known as ALPs, is a group of dedicated students who want to see this change happen and are taking the necessary steps to achieve that goal.

Many different opportunities are available for students to learn and help their environment with the ALPs club, including kayaking trips and after school recycling. Club supervisor, Erin Berryhill, leads students on immersive and engaging tours of the nearby community where they get chances to volunteer their time and give back while enjoying the outdoors. Teaming up with the Highlands chapter of the ALPs club, high school and middle school students were paired up while kayaking down the Rogue river and were able to learn so much about the world around them. “ALPs is a great way to experience the outdoors with your friends and do good for your community at the same time,” senior Hunter Schumaker said. Being able to show the younger generation how to love the outdoor environment is an unforgettable experience, one that he will always remember.

But amazing outings is not all ALPs members get to be a part of, they also help out the high school with recycling. Roughly every two weeks students get together and collect paper, cans, and all other recyclable materials around the school from the blue recycling bins. The whole process only takes an hour, and there is a reward of one hour of community service for those who come out and help.
The Adventure Leadership Program is a great way for any student looking to get involved in the community and learn about what they can do to better the environment. Whether by taking an hour to clean up recycling or taking part of an amazing kayaking trip, everyone is able to participate in bettering the environment. Club membership is open to all who want to take part, and meetings arise when needed.
