Teacher Feature: Megan Rogers

Last year Megan Rogers began her student teaching placement at Northview while finishing up classes at Aquinas College. Nearly placed at another school, Rogers is very thankful that Northview worked out for her. According to Rogers, This wasn’t a “typical placement,” with a double major of Spanish and English, she student taught both Rodegher’s Spanish classes and Whetstone’s Language Arts classes.

When Whetstone left early on maternity leave, Rogers was thrown into teaching headfirst. “It was my first year of teaching even though I hadn’t even graduated yet.” The English Department provided her a sense of family and made it so that she felt at home. Even with an opportunity to teach at the Aviation Academy, Rogers already knew that Northview was a better fit for her teaching career and where it would lead.

Rogers is very thankful for the opportunities she was given here at Northview. It’s difficult for new teachers to get into the field and she knows the struggles some of her friends have gone through. “I’m very fortunate to be here. It’s hard to break the mold of where you already imagined your career.” Her wish to not have to relocate came true when she was given the spot here to teach Spanish 1 and English 9 this past fall. A new wish is to be able to take her career to higher levels with Northview. Welcome Ms. Rogers!
